Kansas City New flavours are being introduced to the ice cream market by both established and up-and-coming firms, who get their inspiration from things like breakfast foods and vintage films.

According to the International Dairy Foods Association, customers’ favourites are still cookies and cream, chocolate, and regular vanilla; but, over the past year, product manufacturers have produced some creative pleasures. A recent example is the result of a collaboration between Van Leeuwen Ice Cream and Kraft Heinz Co. to launch a limited-edition ice cream that pays homage to Kraft Macaroni & Cheese and is coloured with turmeric and cheese powder.

“We are aware that nothing is more cool than ice cream on a sweltering summer day,” stated Emily Violett, senior associate brand manager at Kraft Macaroni & Cheese. For this reason, we set out to blend two of the most recognisable comfort foods to produce an ice cream that would taste just like the Kraft Macaroni & Cheese that we all grew up eating. We felt Van Leeuwen would be the ideal collaborator to make this ice cream since we are huge fans of theirs. Like our Kraft Macaroni & Cheese, it tastes great but is also created with premium ingredients and has no artificial flavours, preservatives, or dyes.

Other new products combine the flavours of popular breakfast foods, such as butter coffee, everything bagel, and cereal milk
