KANSAS CITY National restaurant brands are adding dessert mashups to their seasonal menus to make them sweeter. In its newest product, the Toasted S’mores Shake from Sonic Drive-In, the company blends two summertime favourites: vanilla ice cream and chocolate chunks and graham cracker crumbs, topped with a marshmallow.

“There’s a reason s’mores are so iconic—with a crunch you can’t get enough balanced with the sweetness of chocolate and marshmallow—and we were able to take the classic summer dessert to a whole new level by blending in cool, rich ice cream,” stated Scott Uehlein, vice president of product innovation and development at Sonic Drive-In. “With the Toasted S’mores Shake, you can enjoy the cosy and well-known memory of sharing a meal over a campfire anytime, anywhere.”

A new Hi-Chew dual-layer candy flavour called Tropical Smoothie, which made its debut earlier this year as a part of the Fruit Combos mix, served as the inspiration for two new Menchie’s Frozen Yoghurt products. Participating Menchie’s stores around the country will be selling Hi-Chew Mango and Hi-Chew Passion Fruit frozen yoghurt flavours during the entire month. Both brands worked together to create Hi-Chew Dragon Fruit frozen yoghurt in the past.

“We were excited to see the product come to life in an unexpected way,” stated Tatsuya Takamiya, chief marketing officer of Morinaga America, Inc., the company that makes Hi-Chew. “The idea of layering two flavours together to create something new was integral to the development of Hi-Chew Tropical Smoothie,” Takamiya added. The fact that Hi-Chew’s true-to-fruit flavour is now available to customers thanks to these while honouring the creative dual layers of the Tropical Smoothie chewlet with frozen yoghurt flavours.

Cheesecake and Cinnabon cinnamon come together in a new dessert that TGI Fridays is offering. The Cinnabon Caramel Pecan Cheesecake is topped with a dollop of vanilla bean ice cream and consists of layers of vanilla crunch cake, cream cheese icing, caramel, and glazed pecans.

Tim Hortons’ latest concoctions combine two classic breakfast dishes. The Froot Loops Dream Donut features a base of strawberry frosting, a layer of white icing, and Kellogg’s Froot Loops cereal on top. Froot Loops Timbits are donut holes made of citrus cake that have been coated in crushed Froot Loops pieces and then glazed.
