“Significant investment” from Mondelez in Belgium
In Herentals, Belgium, Mondelez International intends to invest €30 million ($32.72 million) in its baking factory. According to Mondelez, the proposed investment is anticipated to increase production capacity to better support the company’s expanding presence in the European biscuit market while also transforming the factory into “a more modern, flexible, and competitive” facility.
Bart De Geest, plant director of Mondelez Herentals, stated, “This major investment will continue the modernization of the production installations in our Herentals facility and create a highly efficient and robust supply infrastructure for our iconic biscuits such as Prince, Tuc, and PiM’s.” “This operation will enable the plant to develop its competitiveness and prepares the ground for future growth of the plant in conjunction with the development of our people expertise.”
The plant’s main production lines would be the focus of the investment, according to Mondelez. In particular, the business intends to add a TUC cracker production line to the two already-existing cracker lines. According to Mondelez, the new line would give TUC an extra 6,500 tons of capacity, which might allow growth of up to 40% in the future.
In addition, Mondelez intends to build a production facility for Prince biscuits. According to Mondelez, the facility will be constructed and put into use in early 2024. It will create chocolate cream filling for Prince biscuits using cutting-edge technology.
The plant’s emphasis on the development of its two main “core” lines, Prince and TUC, is in keeping with this huge upgrade in production equipment, the business stated.
According to Mondelez, these investments will be accompanied by upgrades to the facility’s PiM line, including a new cake baking unit and an improved chocolate process. According to Mondelez, the PiM’s oven will be among the first in Europe’s supply chain network to switch from gas to electrical energy, demonstrating the company’s commitment to lowering carbon emissions in its production operations.
Packaging machinery will be installed in Bastogne in order to generate sales. In order to increase security and boost production efficiency, the factory will also install new IT systems for the management of the warehouse and production system, according to Mondelez.
“Herentals is one of the largest production facilities of Mondelez International in Europe, with our combined expertise in chocolate and biscuit manufacturing,” Mr. De Geest stated. “We will be able to respond to the growing market demand and solidify the plants’ importance within the group thanks to this commitment.”
