Rowdy Energy is closing.

The Environmental Research Center, San Diego, filed a notice of a law violation in California on December 5 and claimed that certain Rowdy Energy beverage variations had toxins that violated Proposition 65. This led to the decision to close the business. The notification specifically mentioned the items’ high lead and mercury content.

Co-founded in 2019 by Jeff Church, the businessman behind bottled water brand NIKA Water Co. and cold-pressed juice brand Suja Juice, and Busch, Rowdy Energy is positioned as a healthier energy drink in the market. The company said that the drinks, which were free of artificial sweeteners and sugar, included 160 mg of caffeine from green tea along with the nootropic L-Theanine to provide a spike in energy without the unwelcome and agitating crash.
