New vice president of retail sales east appointed by Hormel Foods
Austin, Minnesota — Darren Carter has been promoted to vice president of retail sales – East at Hormel Foods Corp. from vice president of sales strategy. Carter takes over for Pat Schwab, who is leaving the company to retire. According to the corporation, Carter’s new position would put him in charge of all retail clients’ sales operations in the Eastern part of the country.
According to PJ Connor, group vice president, retail sales, “Pat has been a tremendous leader for our company and has made an outstanding impact on many sales divisions and customer relationships throughout his 37-year career with Hormel Foods.” “We hope he has a happy and fulfilling retirement. Darren is a great fit to manage our retail sales team in the Eastern US. He has a great deal of expertise in strategic planning, leading sales teams, and establishing reliable connections with our retail partners. He is in a strong position to succeed in this significant post, in my opinion.
Carter spent the last five years as vice president of sales at CytoSport, Inc. Carter was previously Hormel’s corporate manager of category sales and Hormel’s customer business manager for Walmart.Carter graduated from Purdue University with a bachelor’s degree in sales and marketing.

Since joining the company in 1986, Schwab has had a number of sales roles, including national sales manager. In 2000, he was promoted to director of fresh meat sales from his position as corporate manager of fresh pork sales, planning, and logistics. Later on in 2009, he was elevated to senior vice president of sales for the consumer products sales division and assigned director of fresh meats and margin improvement. In 2012, he was promoted to vice president of sales for Hormel Foods.
