Born Simple, a brand of barbecue and broth, has been bought by Mizkan America, Inc., a division of the Mizkan Group. The transaction’s terms were kept a secret.

Born Simple, a Boise, Idaho-based company, was founded in 2019 with the goal of providing “simpler to use” items without “unnecessary extras,” according to Rob Johnson, the company’s founder and CEO. It sells a variety of concentrates for barbecue sauces and broth that have minimal ingredient lists and labeling that are organic and non-GMO.

The barbecue sauces come in flavors such as brown sugar ginger, tamari chipotle, sweet hickory, and lemongrass mustard. Brown sugar, organic apple cider vinegar, and other natural ingredients are used in their preparation. There are chicken and beef broth concentrates available, in addition to vegan chicken and vegan beef styles.

Diego Palmieri, president and COO of Mizkan America, stated that Born Simple is an exciting addition to the Mizkan family of businesses. “With this acquisition, we enter adjacent industries as a leader in the US pasta sauce and vinegar markets. Additionally, we think Born Simple has a lot of room to develop in the future.

According to Mr. Palmieri, Born Simple will assist Mizkan America in meeting consumer demand for clearer labels and healthier ingredients. He continued, “The brand will also increase the company’s reach into the millennial and Gen Z markets with its relatable story and authentic positioning.”

Along with vinegars, Italian and Asian sauces, culinary wines, wine reductions, sushi seasoning, and salad dressings under the RAGÚ, Bertolli, Holland House, Nakano, Four Monks, Barengo, Nature’s Intent, World Harbors, and Mizkan brands, the barbecue and broth brand now comes to Mizkan America.

Mr. Johnson stated, “We are thrilled to collaborate with Mizkan because its goal of fusing mouthwatering flavor with healthful options reflects a set of values closely aligned to our own.” “We are developing a line of USDA-organic items that will provide shoppers in-store straightforward, delectable, and healthful options. Through our collaboration with Mizkan, we will be able to significantly increase the scope of our influence.
