Homegrown Family Foods and Mennel purchasing companies in Summit Hill
Two distinct agreements have been signed by Homegrown Family Foods, LLC and The Mennel Milling Co. to purchase enterprises from Summit Hill Foods. On November 30, the private equity firm EagleTree Capital acquired Summit Hill Foods.
The branded dry mix business of Summit Hill Foods, Rome, Ga., which includes the Southeastern Mills gravy and bakery mixes, the Shore Lunch dry soup and breading mixes, the Crockery Gourmet seasoning mixes, the Striver’s Best cornmeal flour and cornbread mixes, and the Blue Seal and Rome Beauty flour and cornmeal, is being acquired by Homegrown Family Foods, Newton, NC. The acquisition’s terms were kept a secret.
Summit Hill Foods is selling the commercial dry mix business and production equipment to The Mennel Milling Co., located in Fostoria, Ohio. Additionally, the terms of that acquisition were kept a secret.
According to Mennel, Summit Hill Foods will keep producing commercial dry mix goods until January 1, 2024, at which point it will move the company to its factories in Newton, North Carolina, and Caledonia, Ohio.

The company’s third acquisition of Summit’s branded dry mix business since 2019 according to Homegrown Family Foods president Jack Stout. The corporation also owns the brands Tenda-Bake, Southern Biscuit, Nancy Jane, Kentucky Kernel, and Don’s Chuck Wagon.
