DUNKIRK, New York The Dunkirk, New York, plant of ice cream maker Wells Enterprises is growing, more than doubling its present production capacity.
The project is expected to be operational by late 2025, with construction set to commence this fall.
According to the company, Wells intends to use the facility as a key component of its efforts to expand its nationwide manufacturing network for its Blue Ribbon Classics, Halo Top, Blue Bunny, and Bomb Pop brands. In addition, Wells’ approach to the market emphasizes innovation and expansion in packaged ice cream and novelty.

Wells Enterprises, headquartered in Le Mars, Iowa, operates two manufacturing facilities in the same state as well as one in Henderson, Nevada. In late 2022, Wells Enterprises was acquired by Ferrero Group.
Chief operating officer Mark Meyer stated that the company’s recent success is what led to the Dunkirk expansion.
“That makes Wells’ decision to expand our Dunkirk facility the right one, especially in light of our brands’ and the category’s overall growth plan,” Mr. Meyer stated.
