Grow the traceable soybean program, says ADM
Chicago In advance of new deforestation regulations from the European Union going into effect at the end of the year, ADM plans to expand this sustainability initiative to key North American locations for the 2024 growing season, starting with the loading and shipping of its first vessels full of verified, traceable soybeans from the United States to Europe.
According to Matt Hopkins, vice president of ADM’s North America River and Export, “at ADM, our future and success depend on the farmers we work with and for, which is why we’re committed to helping support their businesses and their legacies by ensuring that global markets remain open to US agricultural products.” In addition to our all-encompassing strategy to attain supply chains free from deforestation by 2025, this program highlights the importance of ADM’s unique worldwide presence and our commitment to climate-smart and regenerative agriculture.
The Chicago-based company’s International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC) certified bean program gave rise to ADM’s traceable soybean initiative. It makes use of cutting-edge technology to verify, trace, and separate participant beans from farmers to their final destination. Examples of this technology are FBN’s Gradable digital platform and ADM’s origination and transportation capabilities.
ADM announced that it plans to expand the program to more North American locations this year, giving interested farmers the chance to continue participating in existing and new global markets that generate greater value and preference for their crops. The successful pilot program delivered 2.4 million bus of fully traceable soybeans to European customers.

“We are confident in our ability to continue delivering to customers in Europe, even though there are still issues to work through in advance of the EU’s deforestation regulations, including how full compliance will be defined, measured, and enforced,” stated Jon Turney, vice president, EMEA Crush for ADM. “Until the new regulations take effect on December 31st, we will keep working with stakeholders—including farmers, the government, and industry—across our supply chains in the US and other important regions.”
