Food tech company Equii introduces a novel bread
PHILADELPHIA: The bread line of food technology startup Equii, which specialises in low-carb and high-complete protein bread, is expanding. Customers can “have the best of both worlds — nutrition and flavour that will delight your taste buds” with the goods, which include multigrain and plain bread, according to Equii. Additionally, the business will launch two more items that can be pre-ordered on its website.
According to Equii, each slice of its bread has all nine essential amino acids and 10 grammes of complete protein, making it a “complete protein source.”
The business declared, “Equii’s classification as a complete protein source is a game changer.” It gives customers an easy and tasty approach to receive all the key amino acids their bodies require while also satisfying their protein needs. Equii has you covered whether you’re an athlete seeking to enhance your performance or a health-conscious customer seeking a wholesome choice.
Food scientists Monica Bhatia, PhD, and Baljit Ghotra, PhD, along with chef Sebastian Canonne, Meilleur Ouvrier de France (MOF), founded Equii in 2021. The company, formerly known as Cella Farms, developed a patented method for identifying wholesome sources of microbial proteins that are utilised to ferment grains and make high-protein grain flours, which have three to six times more protein and around half as much fat as many carbs as ordinary flour. Khosla Ventures, an early supporter of Impossible Foods, gave Equii $6 million in startup money in 2022, bringing the company’s total funding to $8 million. Along with angel investors in the fields of artificial intelligence, precision fermentation, food technology, agriculture technology, and synthetic biology, other investors in Equii include kdT Ventures, 1derlife Partners, Accelr8 Partners, and Axial Ventures. According to Equii, it may introduce additional bread varieties like buns, bagels, and rolls. It also intends to provide its flour to producers of other items made from grains.
