Creating a “new era of coffee” with Dunkin’
At Dunkin’, innovation in coffee is brewing. The restaurant company is expanding its menu to include two new hot coffees and an additional caffeinated drink.
With 20% more caffeine than its traditional hot and iced coffee, Dunkin’ is giving customers an additional dose of caffeine with its new additional Charged Coffee. According to Dunkin, the extra caffeine comes from green coffee extract, which is caffeine that is taken out of the coffee bean itself before roasting. You can get the drink hot or cold.
Customer requests for higher caffeine content in their coffee drinks without compromising flavor led to the creation of Extra Charged Coffee, according to Heidi Curry, senior manager of research and development at Dunkin’.
“A few of our visitors informed us that they were seeking a slight increase in caffeine from their preferred coffee beverages; however, incorporating an espresso shot essentially modifies the taste profile of the coffee,” Ms. Curry stated. “To give guests the benefit of extra caffeine without compromising the taste of the premium Dunkin’ Hot and Iced Coffee that they know and love, we brewed up a new innovation, Extra Charged Coffee.”
In order to satisfy customers’ “adventurous palates,” Dunkin’ has also introduced a new program called the Limited Batch Series. This series will rotate a range of coffees that are available for a limited time only. The new Explorer Batch coffee, a medium roast with hints of dark berries and a smokey finish, is the first in the series. The four primary coffee-growing regions in the world—Sumatra, Ethiopia, Colombia, and Guatemala—are represented in the blend of coffee beans used.

While Explorer Batch is more of a medium roast with a deep, earthy, and smoky flavor, our Original Blend delivers a medium-light roast and sweet, caramel-forward flavor, according to Ms. Curry.
The chain’s darkest roast to date, Dunkin’ Midnight, is also making its debut. According to Dunkin, the hot, slow-roasted coffee from Central and South America has a rich, smooth, and full-bodied flavor with hints of cocoa. Dunkin’ Dark Roast, which has been available since 2014, will be replaced by Dunkin’ Midnight.
“Our guests’ palates have changed over the last six years,” Ms. Curry stated. These days, they’re searching for even darker taste profiles, such as Dunkin’ Midnight. Additionally, as part of our new Limited Edition, going darker with Dunkin’ Midnight provides us even more flexibility for coffee innovation.
The new coffee options from Dunkin’ will be accessible starting on December 30.
“Dunkin’ has served a superior cup of coffee since opening our doors more than 70 years ago,” stated Jill Nelson, vice president of marketing and culinary at the Inspire Brands, Inc. subsidiary.
In order to spearhead a new era of coffee at Dunkin’, we’re providing the boldest and most varied selection of blends and customization choices in our history. With our selection ranging from the darkest roast to the strongest hot and iced coffee variants, we are more determined than ever to keep Americans drinking Dunkin’ in 2021.
In addition to its constant innovation in coffee, Dunkin is launching the Dunkfetti Donut. The donut, which has a confetti cake ring covered in sweet glaze, is offered from December 30 to January 26.
