Chipotle introduces a new accelerator centered on farmers.
The company behind Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. is introducing the second version of its accelerator program, Chipotle Aluminaries Project 2.0, which is geared toward farmers.
The program’s goal is to assist businesses that address issues that young farmers confront, such as labor, financing, and land availability. AgTech, wellness, and education solutions will also be taken into consideration.
Laurie Schalow, Chipotle’s senior corporate reputation officer, stated, “As a company that prioritizes corporate citizenship, Chipotle acknowledges that no one individual or company can cultivate a better world on their own.” “American farming is at a crossroads, and we need to collaborate to find answers to overcome its significant obstacles.”
The accelerator expands upon earlier farmer-focused programs launched by Chipotle. The business declared last month that it will enhance local sourcing, provide seed funding, and execute three-year contracts with authorized suppliers. Additionally, it gave the National Young Farmers Coalition a donation of almost $385,000.
Sponsored by the non-profit Unchartered and the Chipotle Cultivate Foundation, the eight-month program will feature individualized support and mentorship from prominent figures in the field. Apart from Chipotle executives, mentors include Seth Goldman, the inventor of Honest Tea, Robyn O’Brien, the co-founder of replant Capital, Ken Meyer, the former global vice-president of Whole Foods Market, and Brian Irving, the chief marketing officer of Eventbrite.
AgVoice, American Ostrich Farms, Asarasi, GrubTubs, ImpactVision, Novolyze, Rex Animal Health, and Sophie’s Plant-Based Seafood were among the eight start-ups that took part in the program the previous year.
