Beyond Meat increases its KFC test but loses Tim Hortons
Two new markets will soon be added to Kentucky Fried Chicken’s plant-based Beyond Fried Chicken menu.Starting on February 3, a few restaurants in Charlotte, North Carolina, and Nashville, Tennessee, will serve the Beyond Meat menu item. The experiments will continue till the materials run out or the end of the month.
Following a successful one-day test run in Atlanta last summer, the Yum! Brands subsidiary became the first nationwide quick-service business to offer Beyond Meat’s plant-based chicken with this announcement.
In order to more closely resemble the flavor and feel of whole muscle chicken, restaurants participating in the expanded test will utilize a new recipe.
Ethan Brown, the founder and CEO of Beyond Meat, stated, “We have created a plant-based chicken that looks, tastes, and pulls apart like a chicken breast together with the KFC team.” “I am thrilled with the work our R&D teams have done and am excited to keep pushing the boundaries of plant-based chicken.”

Only a few days have passed since Tim Hortons removed all of the remaining Beyond Meat products from its outlets in British Columbia and Ontario. Now, KFC has announced an expanded test. In September, the chain of coffee shops that had previously introduced Beyond Meat burgers and breakfast sandwiches in the summer discontinued carrying plant-based products in any of its other locations outside of the two provinces.
According to a representative for the subsidiary Restaurant Brands International, vegetarian alternatives did not gain traction with customers.
The spokespeople stated, “We tested our guests’ interest in having this alternative available and introduced a plant-based protein as a limited-time offer.” In the end, our visitors decide to go with the breakfast sandwich choice that includes meat. In the future, we might provide plant-based substitutes once more, butwe have removed it from the menu for now.”
