The origin of the product idea came from a trip to South Korea that Mr. O’Sullivan took to see the family of his former partner, Sumin Do. During his travels, he discovered that pear juice was a favorite drink, particularly after a night out.

Mr. O’Sullivan stated, “We were drinking (alcohol) almost every day.” “After the evening was over, we would proceed to the convenience store, where Sumin and her friends would purchase a can or pouch of Korean pear juice, which I found really intriguing, in place of getting water. “Does Korean pear juice really help with a hangover?” I queried.

After the trip to South Korea, Mr. O’Sullivan never stopped thinking about the question, and he subsequently notified Mr. Gostencnik about their upcoming next entrepreneurial venture.

They located their manufacturer in South Korea with the assistance of Ms. Do’s mother, and in January 2019, they started their business venture in Australia. The business owners intended to introduce their product to North America after finding success in the Australian market.

In a recent seed investment round, the company raised $325,714 to support its North American debut.

“We’ve had it on our whiteboard since day one; it’s one of the largest markets in the world,” Mr. Gostencnik remarked.

The company had originally intended to offer the product in the spring, but there were some setbacks along the route, thus the formal introduction occurred in November.

Mr. O’Sullivan stated, “We’ve been using the term getting US ready.” It’s the first week of November instead of the first week of March that we had anticipated launching. Certain aspects of our business setup, such as FDA (Food and Drug Administration) compliance, required some work.

Before moving on to other states, the company is testing its product in New York to evaluate how well it works there.

According to Mr. Gostencnik, “New York seemed like a great place for us to start.” “It’s among the most well-known cities worldwide.”

“There are some of the biggest cities in the states (the United States), but it was the right way to just dip our toes in the water starting small,” Mr. O’Sullivan continued. We’ll focus more on what is effective and gauge progress in a limited area.

The company will concentrate its operations on Amazon, its website, and soon into retail. It is working with Gold Coast Distributors in Queens.

Although the product is primarily targeted at people who like alcohol, the team is conducting market research to determine how well-received it is by North American consumers who are health-conscious.

Mr. Gostencnik stated, “We’ve been talking with Korean distributors and Korean people in our network, and they drink it every day.” It’s comparable to drinking your daily juice and is just as healthful as orange juice. We hope to establish ourselves in the US market as a really healthy natural brand and company that not only helps with hangovers but also with daily use, since we were pigeonholed in Australia as the major hangover people or brand.

Their go-to-market approach for Australia was to be authentic and share their narrative. The group is hopeful that approach works with north America

The team is using conventional marketing strategies in addition to sharing its narrative.

Mr. O’Sullivan stated, “We’re going to do some visual billboards, posters, and different advertisements.” “As business owners, we’ve learned a lot from our biggest learning curve—staying away from superstars. There is the actual sales conversion, and then there is the flash and glamour. Our displays will be placed on shelves, counters, and visual items in the store. Mr. Gostencnik said that America offers limitless prospects and that he intends to push Bae Juice as hard as possible in the US in the upcoming years.

“The goal is to grow the retail presence to the West Coast and gradually develop the brand by adding a few states next year,” he stated.
