At an Illinois meat facility, groundbreaking took place

The purpose of the Meat & Poultry Grant program is to strengthen the supply chain and assist independent processors. Through the program, Saline River Farms is able to expand and repair its current processing facilities, bringing its total investment to $34.5 million.

Governor JB Pritzker of Illinois, representatives from Saline River Farms, as well as partners and local leaders, attended the groundbreaking.

“In the near future, this site will transform into a cutting-edge, 60,000 square foot USDA meat processing plant, generating hundreds of thousands of pounds of beef per day and creating well-paying full-time jobs in the process,” Mr. Pritzker stated. “It is a win-win situation when more food reaches store shelves and more employment are created for hardworking Southern and Central Illinoisans. I appreciate USDA and Williamson County collaborating to make today possible, as it provides Creal Springs and the neighboring communities with a chance to recover and thrive.
